Faculty of Health and Wellbeing
Biosciences
The Teaching and Learning technical team of the Biosciences subject area supports a wide range of practical teaching for the faculty of Health and Wellbeing. The team’s main duties include preparation of materials for under- and post-graduate practical classes, troubleshooting practical issues as they arise, demonstrating instrumentation and techniques, developing future practical classes and supporting other technical / academic staff involved in supporting research project students.
We are appointing a supervisory manager for the team, who will be responsible for organising the team workload and its utilisation of specialist accommodation and ensuring that positive customer focussed outcomes are achieved. Other duties will include supporting team members as they develop the necessary skill sets for quality delivery, implementation and maintenance of Health & Safety systems, provision of regular reports to the Technical Team Leader and exploring ways of further increasing the team’s involvement in learning, teaching and assessment (LTA) activities.
You will have experience of supervisory management combined with substantial practical experience in some of the disciplines that the team supports; ranging from Cell Biology and Molecular Biology to Biochemistry and Analytical Chemistry. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills coupled with the ability to manage the workload of the team in a rapidly changing environment are essential.
The person offered this post will be subject to a standard criminal records check by the Criminal Records Bureau. A criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from working at Sheffield Hallam University but its relevance to the duties of the post will need to be assessed before the appointment is confirmed.
