The Biosciences subject area supports a wide range of practical teaching for the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing. The post will support the two technical teams; the Projects and Resources team and the Teaching and Learning team. The main duties are provision of assistance to the senior technical staff in the preparation of materials and reagents for under- and post-graduate practical classes, providing support to under- and post-graduate project students and research and consultancy activities, troubleshooting practical issues as they arise, demonstrating instrumentation and techniques, developing future practical classes and supporting other technical / academic staff involved in supporting research project students, procurement and provision of an internal stores service.
We are appointing a technician to support the laboratory based activities in this subject area. This is a 2 year fixed term post offering the opportunity for a suitably qualified candidate to extend their practical skills in a wide range of techniques supporting teaching, research and consultancy and procurement.
You will have some experience of techniques in at least one of the following disciplines: biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, inorganic / organic / analytical chemistry or microbiology. You should be highly motivated with a professional work ethic and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You should be confident and meticulous in your work and able to work across team boundaries to ensure customer focussed results.
The person offered this post will be subject to a standard criminal records check by the Criminal Records Bureau. A criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from working at Sheffield Hallam University but its relevance to the duties of the post will need to be assessed before the appointment is confirmed.
