Job Description

For this collections officer role based in Rotherham you should have debt management experience, be target driven and have customer service experience. Ideally you should have knowledge of regulation, a persuasive telephone manner and creditor tactics.

Purpose

The position is to contact customers who are in arrears or experiencing difficulties with their agreed repayment terms of their debt management plans and ensuring that the arrears are collected over a set timescale. Fact finding to establish and quantify the reason’s for the arrears incorporating agreed revised terms where applicable. To ensure that proof of difficulties is received and validated.

Key responsibilities

  • To contact customers who have missed repayments either by telephone or letter and discuss/negotiate a repayment plan.

  • Discuss income and expenditure with customers as part of an ongoing payment plan.

  • Monitor existing arrangements with customers to ensure agreements are being maintained and review on a regular basis.

  • To adhere to set guidelines from OFT and FSA regarding treating customers fairly when an arrears case has been identified.

  • To liaise with various outside agencies to obtain the best outcome for the customer.

Key skills

  • Excellent customer service skills, evidence will be required to be demonstrated.

  • The ability to empathise with customers whilst maintaining a professional approach to customers and their individual circumstances.

  • Ability to work and meet expectations, working in conjunction with individual and team targets.

  • Excellent team player, incorporating organisation and processing skills.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft word/ excel packages with the ability to develop skills in this area.
