Job Description

The company is a rapidly expanding, specialist software development company based in Sheffield, UK, with offices in the USA and reseller outlets worldwide. The head office is located in the City of Sheffield, a dynamic city renowned for its green spaces and on the edge of the Peak District National Park.

You will be working with an impressive client list including internationally renowned tier one and tier two companies from a wide range of industries. The software product range consists of advanced engineering analysis and simulation software operating on multiple platforms, including Windows, Linux and cross-platform HPC clusters.

An experienced software engineer is required for full lifecycle application development from requirement analysis through to deployment and on-going maintenance. This is innovative product-orientated development, requiring a background in software development, and either mathematics engineering analysis. Software development will involve working with research engineers to develop new analysis methods and algorithms, and with software partners to develop comprehensive data interfaces and integrated analysis capabilities. New software development requires solid design, coding, debugging, testing and optimisation skills on Windows and Linux in a Continuous Integration environment, primarily using C++ and Java, combined with strong OOA and OOD experience.

You will be expected to demonstrate a high level of technical competence in software development and modern programming techniques. The ability to work effectively and positively as part of a team is essential, together with a desire to take responsibility for planning and managing development projects and providing technical direction to other members of the team.

This position provides an excellent opportunity for a team player who can demonstrate:

lateral thinking in the development of project requirements, technical expertise in the design and development of high quality code, ingenuity in the design of user interfaces and integrated solutions and in code optimisation, diligence and organisation in debugging, testing and deployment of high quality software to commercial deadlines.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A Bachelor Degree with Honours in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics or Computer Science or a related discipline.

  • An MSc or PhD in a relevant subject would be considered beneficial.

Experience:

Comprehensive programming experience developing commercial software applications is required, preferably involving at least one of the following application areas:

analytical engineering and simulation

parallel, distributed and cluster systems

cross-platform development and deployment on both Windows and Linux

Excellent and demonstrable skills in OOA, OOD and C++.

Good written, oral and presentation skills.

Familiarity with user interface design, Qt, GCC, GDB, Eclipse/CDT, Java, FORTRAN and platform-independent code optimisation.

Familiarity with engineering analysis concepts, strength of materials or metal fatigue would be an advantage.

This position is based in the Headquarters in Sheffield. A small amount of international travel may be required.
