    Our client in the Barnsley area recruiting for a Team Leader.

    Job Description

    JOB TITLE: Team Leader
    REPORTS TO: Shift Manager


    1. Purpose:
    To effectively manage day-to-day specific area issues to ensure manufacturing performance.

    2. Dimensions:
    a) Plan and co-ordinate the activities of the production facility in the short term.
    b) To ensure the daily plan for the department is achieved.
    c) To develop and maintain positive working relationships with our internal and external customers.
    d) To take ownership for product quality in the day-to-day running of the department to ensure standards are maintained.
    e) To ensure that the day-to-day hygiene and house keeping standards are met.
    f) To facilitate the training and support of Line Leaders & operatives to ensure an appropriate skill level is maintained.
    g) To ensure effective utilisation of labour.
    h) To monitor and control the efficiency within the area of responsibility.
    i) Monitor & control department material variances to agreed targets.
    j) Promote a safe working environment culture and conduct accident investigations initiating recommendations where possible.
    k) To conduct daily Health & Safety checks in the area of responsibility.
    1) Contribute to the continuous improvement in business performance.
    m) Carry out ad hoc projects and investigations as and when required.

    3. Knowledge / Skills / Experience required:
    • Have a minimum of 12 months Supervisory experience.
    • Have experience of the food industry, preferably chilled food manufacture.
    • To have the ability to communicate at all levels of the business (Verbal, written, listening, influencing, report writing).
    • Have good problem solving skills.
    • The ability to prioritise and work effectively under pressure.

    4. Key Result Area:
    Primary Role:
    a) Ensure performance standards, as set by the General Manager and customers are met in respect of:
    • Output (Conformance to plan)
    • Material usage (V.'s Standard)
    • Line efficiencies (V.'s Standard)
    • Quality (V.'s Standard, Continuous Improvement)
    • Hygiene (80% GMP audit compliance, Continuous Improvement)
    b) Demonstrate effective cost control within area of responsibility through:
    • Effective use of labour.
    • Overtime reduction.
    • Waste reduction.
    c) Ensure competency and skills succession of workforce within the factory:
    • Identify departmental training needs.
    • Coach and assess skills.
    • Maintain departmental training matrices.
    • Provide new starters with a structured training programme.
    • Identify operative potential and ensure that their ability is recognised and developed so giving the production facility a strong skills base going forward into expansion.
    d) Drive the factory forward in terms of performance improvement and innovation through:
    • Challenging working practices to establish "best practice".
    • Continuously improving manufacturing processes.
    • Manage change effectively.
    • Demonstrate motivational leadership in the work place.
    e) Reduction in customer complaint levels:
    • Conduct full investigations of foreign body complaints and feed back information to all operatives.
    f) Specific tasks associated with production area:
    • Liaise with other shift during shift hand over.
    • Monitor material usage during the shift and action any re-occurring variances accordingly.
    • Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed accurately (Quality documentation, Health & Safety, Start Up Sheets, ELF Time sheets, Material Control Variance sheets etc.).
    • Communicate with all relevant departments to ensure the effective and efficient running of the department.

    6. Assignments and Planning of Work:
    The Shift Manager provides policy and personal guidance. On a day-to-day basis the Team Leader is expected to deal with the fulfilment of customer orders. Long term planning will be required for Training and Health & Safety and will be organised against agreed targets for personnel in the factory.

    7. Working Relationships
    External contacts will be customer technologists and machinery suppliers or Engineers.
    Loughborough based contacts will be Planning and Directors.
    Internal contacts include all Senior Managers on site, Shift Managers, Stock Controller, the other Team Leaders, QA’s, Production Administration and Human Resources.

    8. Decision Making Authority and Controls:
    The Team Leader may:
    Man up production areas based on pre agreed levels with the General Manager, Shift Manager and company labour standards.
    May recommend but not authorise overtime. This must be agreed with the General Manager.
    Authorise holidays of those reporting to them and organise sufficient cover.
    Is authorised to conduct the Company Disciplinary Process to FINAL WARNING (when agreed with the Shift Manager).

    9. Challenges and Key features of the role
    A Team Leader will be proactive in promoting Continuous Improvement within the factory and will help to maintain an open site culture
