    A prominent supplier of steel and metal products are looking for a Purchasing Manager to join their team.

    You will be responsible for supply chain effectiveness and efficiency (as measured by Turn and Earn, minimum stock-outs and other appropriate measures) with regard to inventory availability of the:
    - required levels for the required products,
    - required location
    - most favourable commercial terms
    - appropriate quality

    You should have an analytical mind to enable effective inventory management and the ability to foster a culture of cross functional working to ensure product availability from inventory planning and sales through operations to meet customer service level objectives.

    You will be effective in building and developing internal & external relationships. Your excellent people skills will be required to motivate and manage an effective purchasing team and a proven record of team building, coaching and development is required.

    You will manage the purchasing budget and inventory availability in line with sales requirements and participate in implementing company values, systems and supply chain strategies. You will use own initiative to manage supplier relationships, to achieve best commercial terms, delivery & quality performance.

    The successful candidate will have a purchasing background, and a relevant degree or professional qualification is preferred. Experience or knowledge of mechanical engineering and materials processing including first, second and potentially third stage transformation and heat treatment is also an advantage. You should have the ability to read and understand complex product specifications and customer manufacturing drawings, and excellent communication skills with a strong ability to negotiate deals.

    Any knowledge of Cr-Mo is an advantage, as is knowledge of nickel based and low alloy steels. Any knowledge of the oil and gas equipment manufacturing industry is ideal.
