Target Housing
Target Housing was established in 1990 in collaboration with South Yorkshire Probation Service, South Yorkshire Housing Association and a local charity, the Grace Tebbutt Trust, which provided a loan for the first three years as working capital.
Current Situation
Target Housing is a managing agent for South Yorkshire Housing Association.
Our work is undertaken in one and two bedroomed flats, bedsits and houses across the city of Sheffield. Our intention is to help our residents towards independent living by gradually removing support once the barriers to stabilisation have been addressed.
We adhere to the principle of "Added Value", believing that although safe, secure, well furnished, supported accommodation is the starting point for change, this is a means to an end not the end itself. We work hard to motivate our residents to participate in the local and wider city community and our team of Housing Support Workers have designated responsibility for resident access to education, training and employment and community provision in terms of leisure and personal development.
We offer specialist support for those of our residents who have substance and alcohol misuse problems and/or mental health issues
Target Housing adopts a staged approach to the progression to independent living. Residents can stay in our shared accommodation (Core) with enhanced support for up to two years and then, if appropriate, they are offered a bedsit or one bedroomed flat (Target Move-On).
Target has always acknowledged the need for permanent move on and in April 2000, a partnership was negotiated with Sheffield City Council, our Target Link Scheme, which now provides accommodation for those of our residents who are ready for the last stage to independent living with appropriate support.
We furnish and maintain these properties, and when we finally withdraw our support (usually after 18 – 24 months) all furnishings are given to the resident who then becomes an independent council tenant.
At any one time Target Housing manages approximately 25 Link bedspaces.
