As the country’s leading disability charity you would expect us to be the very best.
When you get older, what’s the thing you’d most fear losing?
Wouldn’t it be your independence?
The Leonard Cheshire Disability Care at Home Service recognises this by helping people – some frail elderly, some younger disabled – to maintain their own independent lifestyle by getting help in their own homes. This help might be with personal care, shopping, mealtimes, dressing, getting up and going to bed or getting ready for work.
Leonard Cheshire was a man who strove all his life to give people the right to choose how they lived their everyday lives, an ambition which resulted in the first Care at Home Service being set up in 1972. What he started has become one of the largest and most successful charities of its type in the world.
So what sort of person could be a Care Assistant?
Well you don’t need to be any particular age (as long as you are over 18 years old). You certainly don’t need lots of academic qualifications; it’s the personal qualities which are far more important. It’s having a smile on your face, being able to make those around you smile and feel valued. If you feel you could do this then we would train you to a high standard and give you opportunities to work towards NVQ qualifications. We are looking for people to work full or part time on permanent contracted weekly hours, including full company benefits, or alternatively on an occasional hours contract where we offer regular work at an inclusive higher hourly rate.
Either way, you’d become part of a very large and successful team that really cares about the people it looks after – and you’d be paid a good hourly rate plus a mileage allowance. Equally as important, you’ll make a real difference to people’s lives and that has to be more rewarding and fulfilling than the average job.
Everyone tells you you’re a caring person, now’s your chance to pass that on.
